Bola Ahmed inaugurated as Nigeria’s 16th President

Earlier this week, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was officially inaugurated as Nigeria’s new president after defeating Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in February’s presidential election. The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday, 29th May, at the Eagle Square in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. The event proceeded smoothly without any disturbances, despite the controversies surrounding Tinubu’s rise to power. The nation observed a national public holiday in honour of the event. In his first inaugural speech, President Tinubu expressed his commitment to a promising future for Nigerians and pledged to enhance the nation’s capacity for shaping its destiny.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) party leader, is Nigeria’s 16th president and he possesses a distinctive political background which makes him unique among others. He holds the distinction of being the first former senator and governor to take over the mantle of presidency. With his inauguration, there are high expectations for Tinubu’s administration to tackle numerous issues that have long plagued the average Nigerian, such as terrorism, poverty, lack of stable electricity, high unemployment among the youths, corruption and insurgency. Like his predecessor, Muhamdu Buhari, the new president emphasised the importance of security, stating without it, neither prosperity nor justice can thrive. He pledged to prioritise security by investing more in training and security equipment.

Currently, Tinubu is dedicating his efforts to unveiling the members of his cabinet. As Nigerians eagerly await the declaration of the full list, many are hoping that his administration will lead the country towards economic progress and development.
