Centre for Equity and Inclusion celebrates its second anniversary with new programme launch

By Baillor Jalloh and Tchiyiwe Tchihana

The Centre for Equity and Inclusion (CEI) at the University of Sheffield marked its second anniversary by launching its new programme of activities for the 2023/24 academic year. The launch event was an opportunity for both new and current postgraduate researchers (PGRs) to learn more about the centre and how to get involved, as well as meeting its co-directors and partners. CEI is a collaborative initiative that aims to promote equity and inclusion in higher education and beyond. It supports PGRs from diverse backgrounds and identities to develop their academic and professional skills, enhance their wellbeing and resilience, and foster a sense of belonging and community. African Voices Platform (AVP) spoke to co-director Dr. Nicola Hemmings, PGR student Merissa Brown, and CEI partner Eelyn Lee, an award-winning filmmaker.

About the Centre for Equity and Inclusion The Centre for Equity & Inclusion is a research hub which seeks to enhance the university experience for postgraduate researchers (PGRs) of colour, whilst challenging racism and other systems of power within and beyond the institution.
