Sheffield Faith and Community Leaders Welcome Covid Memorial Unveiling

By: Baillor Jalloh

Members of the faith and BAME community in Sheffield have welcomed the unveiling of a permanent memorial to mark experiences and to remember those who lost their lives to Covid 19. The permanent monument is also a tribute to those who worked hard in the city to keep people safe.

The stainless steel sculpture representing a willow tree was chosen out of 14 entries after Sheffield City Council asked for submissions. The artwork by George King was installed in Balm Green Gardens on Thursday, 23rd March the anniversary date of the lockdown. African Voices Platform was at the event and we spoke to Sahida Siddique, CEO of FaithStar LLP and Sabia Rehman to get their thoughts on the sculpture.
