Guinea’s Front National for the Defence of the Constitution (FNDC) have organised a nation-wide protest for Thursday 23rd June. This will be the first protest since the junta took over and is supported by the two main opposition parties in the country. The junta has banned all sorts of protest.

This year Sierra Leone celebrated it’s 61 years of independence from the UK. President, Dr Julius Maada Bio has recently shared his government’s successes including measures put in place by his government to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Sierra Leone has recorded one of the lowest rates of confirmed COVID-19 cases and associated deaths in the world.

On March 13th, 2022, thousands of people, including Sierra Leone’s vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh and delegates from many West African countries including Guinea, Liberia, The Gambia, Tchad and Nigeria attended the coronation of Sierra Leone’s Western Fula tribal leader, Alhaji Mohamed Sajor Jalloh.

Baillor Jalloh is in Sierra Leone where a tax row between government and traders along with various stakeholders has been growing.

The Sierra Leone government is currently under intense scrutiny and criticism by consumers and traders alike after a decrease in the tax threshold from 350 million Leones / $35 000 to the equivalent of 8,400 dollars.
